Timely access is one of the hallmarks of good quality healthcare. With overstretched health and social services, this has worsened in the past few years. The thought of when to contact the surgery without being a burden to the services has troubled many. Similarly many have been on the phone morning after morning for an appointment, which is very distressing.
To improve the access and reduce the queuing on the phone lines every morning we are piloting a new email service, where you can contact us by email outlining the problem or the advice you are after. A GP, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Practitioner, Practice Nurse, Healthcare Assistant or Receptionist will contact you* and address your concern in the next 24 hours.
*Please indicate in your email your preferred choice of communication, i.e. for us to return by phone call or by email.
THIS SERVICE IS NOT FOR URGENT AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS SUCH AS CHEST PAIN, ABDOMINAL PAIN, BREATHING DIFFICULTIES
Some reasons to use this service can be:
- To discuss blood results
- Follow-up reviews
- Medication advice
- To discuss symptoms and request best clinician to see
- General medical advice
Following the conversation, an appointment at the surgery or home visit may be organised as appropriate.
Elderly and others who do not acess emails may give permission to their next of kin to contact the surgery on their behalf.
This service is a pilot; we aim to learn and improve and hence feedbacks and suggestions are welcome.
Note: We aim to action your reqeust within a 24 hour period. If you contact us on a Friday or a weekend, please be aware that we may not be able to contact you until the following working day.
